all gold everything (versailles)

It's hard to believe that someone had the time and money to create Versailles in all its glory. It literally glistens.

And that's just from the outside!

Our group was lucky to go a special tour of Louis XIV's private apartments. A much less crowded area because its only available with a tour guide, but if you can, try to get in to see this part of the palace!

did you know there's a theatre inside versailles!? neither did i, but now i'm not surprised!

Make sure you have enough energy to visit the gardens! We walked around the entire time, but maybe splurge and rent a bicycle or even a golf cart so that you can see more of the grounds without being completely exhausted at the end of your visit! We certainly were.

the smaller palace created within the gardens of Versailles for the king's favorite mistress. it later became part of Marie Antoinette's area of the garden (which was my favorite part of the visit!)

Marie Antoinette wanted to know what it was like to have a farm like the peasants she ruled over ... so she created her own picturesque farm on her acres and acres of property.

I asked our professor if there were real farm animals on the grounds and he said no, BUT HE WAS WRONG! There's a whole section with chickens and rabbits and goats and sheep and pigs and guineas. It was a great surprise!

Within the gardens, there are all sorts of hidden gems, like this waterfall above and the mini-palaces below!

Our trip to Versailles was exhausting but truly beautiful. If you have the energy, you can spend an entire day (or two) getting lost in these gardens! I absolutely loved it.
