Last weekend, a few of us decided to take a day trip to Giverny to see the home and gardens of Claude Monet!
It was a BEAUTIFUL trip!
the green bridges over the pond of water lillies!
Don't go to Monet's house expecting it to look like Versailles. The beauty of Giverny is in the vibrant colors and extraordinary garden that I can't believe has been kept up for all this time! His home is simple, but full of brightly painted walls and famous works hung in each room.
so many copper pots. this shot is one of my very favorites!
monet's studio!
And some snapshots from roaming around Giverny!
this horse was at a farm at the top of the hill near Monet's house! we stopped to say hello and he gave us a nice big smile!
this little cacti were for sale at a nearby market!
and the beautiful field of poppies at the Musee des Impressionnismes!
---------------------
The train ride cost approx. 20 euros (round trip) and entrance to the house and gardens was less than 10 euros with the student discount.
Other things to do in Giverny:
we ended up not going inside the museum to save money, but went in the garden area of this museum (open to the public), where there was a beautiful poppy field much like in Monet's paintings!
Roam around the town
Giverny was full of beautiful homes like Monet's that you can see from the street. Keep going past Monet's property and enjoy the beautiful sites from the top of a nearby hill!
Enjoy a little shopping
There were some very cute garden, artisan, and tea salons all within walking distance of Giverny. If you have time before your train ride back, stop in and pick up something to remember your visit!
